Drop in and get Psyfidelic with DRRTYWULVZ

A phenomenon we have been chasing in music is a sound so tight and clean that it conveys a sense of grit or nastiness hidden in the perfection of its arrangement and mix. There are many artists in the underground bass community who we feel sit in this category and you could find almost all of them at a Tipper and Friends event: Sixis, Resonant language, Zonra, Detox Unit, Jade Cicada, Ovoid, Base2, DRRTYWULVZ, and the guy himself Dave Tipper.

In this instance we are examining DRRTYWULVZ new album Psyfidelic. A twelve track journey thru pristinely mixed and masterfully arranged psychedelic bass music. The record starts with bouncy arpeggiations and guttural vocal stabs that weave over a pulsating sea of low end flex. As we move forward through the album the impressively unique sound design takes hold, guided by dancey and fully encapsulating  melody which compliments the afore mentioned low end. Psyfidelic really showcases a wide variety of styles and sounds from track to track and yet maintains its cohesiveness as an album.

"Groovin" is as much of a festival anthem as we've ever heard. Visions and feelings of a journey through a dark jungle on the way to an impressively lit stage are brought to mind. Entertaining frequent and well timed heckles followed by outrageous giggles and laughter.  Distorted Plucks cascade with ceaseless forward momentum as the tune progresses, instigating a headbob that signifies true connection with the tune.

The use of space on this record is really understated. Levi has done well to make all the elements sit perfectly on top of the sub. The leveled up DRRTYWULVZ low end is something we not only applaud, but greatly look forward to hearing more of.

If you've been sleeping on DRRTYWULVZ, stop it. This man has stepped his game up and developed a sound unique to his name, and if you are a fan of deep and tasteful bass music complete with intriguing sound design and flowing melodies that make you want to wiggle; this album is for you.

"We'll see" and "Elephante" bring a sort of bohemian melodic vibe in and out in a way that very much make this record feel like a mix of new age and old world styles blending.

Rounding out the release "Cloak" is a sort of Trip hop/Jungle/dubstep hybrid that checks all our boxes and polishes things off by bringing the elements established across this release together in a way that makes them feel brand new.

Building an album that is cohesive and creates a unified story across 12 tracks is a feat that many electronic artists struggle to achieve, and a task that some may never choose to undertake. As fellow artists, we find great inspiration in seeing this level of dedication and craftsmanship on display.

Truly making this a complete package, the artwork specially created for the project by Jake Amason and Stephen Kruse blankets the vinyl cover inside and out. Vinyl's are available via the Drrtywulvz bandcamp!

Mythm - Anarchy EP [ Wormhole Music Group ]

There are moments you can look back and point to in an artists career that define their come up.
